Take heed, Chicago. The Fame Monster herself is headed for your city, and she won’t leave ‘til she’s got your love. Lady Gaga and pop culture seem to go hand in hand these days, as the diva has enraptured fans with her extreme theatrics, her infectious music and her seemingly ever more outrageous outfits. Gaga’s debut album, The Fame, brought her the title’s promise, with hits destined to get bodies moving; “Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” “LoveGame” and “Paparazzi” introduced us all to her voice, and hinted at what has become her full-blown vision. They also earned her the elite status of being the only artist to have four No. 1’s from the same debut album on the Billboard Pop Songs chart.
Since The Fame, Gaga has gone from alternate-universe, no-pants-Barbara-Streisand to human caricature, though no amount of strange objects in her hair or bizarro-clown makeup colors on her face can hide her talent as a brilliant pop songwriter. Perhaps Gaga is most endearing when she sits at her piano, her ivory-tickling skills and strong, soaring vocals on full display. Still, she seems most comfortable in full-out performance art mode, leading her backup dancers in evocative poses as disco balls spin and something, inevitably, ends up on fire. Citing Queen and David Bowie as huge influences, Lady Gaga has a penchant for exhibitionism, and in just a little over two years, has brought this fascination to mass audiences around the globe.
Though she’s now a well-traveled sensation, back in 2007 Gaga wowed Lollapalooza attendees with an acclaimed Saturday performance. This year, a good guess suggests that on a bigger stage with a refined and greatly amplified production, she’ll blow everyone away.

scheibe6 , about 1 year agoHonestly, this is a bunch of bullshit. Sure, I'll be the first to say that I do love Lady Gaga. But, I'm also a huge fan of old AFI, some Greenday, and Soundgarden. I'm also absolutely dying to see Gogol Bordello perform as well as countless other bands. I love how suddenly liking ONE artist instantly makes you have awful taste. Yet, here I am JUST as excited as the rest of you to see ALL the other acts. You don't know what people are like based simply on a small glimmer of the music they listen to. Look, no matter what show or venue you go to there will always be people you don't like. It doesn't matter who someone is a fan of. You could very easily argue that AFI and Greenday have newer fans that are little "hipsters" or whatever ((And I will say, I have met some that I would have gladly hit in the face.)) Just because you feel that a show is this big 'alternative' show, that doesn't mean it's a secret. It does not mean that it will be exclusive to whatever it is that you try to define as a real fan of music. Not to mention, you can't POSSIBLY say that this will be the worst Lollapalooza ever. You haven't been there yet. Perhaps when it's over, then go for it. Have a damn free for all. Her show is for two hours, on the first day. I highly doubt this will completely and utterly ruin your entire weekend. And if it does, then maybe you need to be a little less bitter.
NailgunInk , about 1 year agoIf people have such a problem with her being there, then don't come to her show 8) That should solve that, shouldn't it? Get over yourselves; there are going to be amazing acts here BESIDES Lady Gaga, but she's most certainly the one i'm most excited about. Lady Gaga fans can be eccentric, i'm not denying that in the least. However, we're just as 'awesome' as any other fans coming to Lollapalooza. Let's agree to disagree.
Katrina Mazza , about 1 year agoWho can honestly say Lady Gaga sucks as an artist? Are you f'ing kidding me? What does anyone out there consider talent? For someone to write music and perform it....she has more talent than all you negative critics...add 1,000,000. Better than the whiney, save the planet, lets all wear skinny jeans grunge bullshit. Screw your heads on people.
kerryangle , about 1 year agoThis will be the biggest show of the weekend!

vailahim , about 1 year agoi fucken love her!! I am going to see her at Lollapalooza!!!!
vailahim , about 1 year agoI like her style, but her music's just not that good imo. I do think she's a good choice for Lolla, because it will give "mainstream" music fans and the GLBT community more exposure to Lolla, and vice versa. I will be watching the Strokes that night, though.
zjh_2002 , about 1 year agoWow Austin...Anger issues much? Who cares who likes who and what types of people they may be. Festivals are meant to be about expanding your thinking, meeting new people and hearing music from bands that may not be on your ipod play list. And ps, please don't bash the gaga loving "faggots" as you called them. They need love too. ; )
