Social Distortion is mandatory listening for any student of
punk, although the band has managed to defy the stereotypical box that label
might otherwise confine them to by accomplishing feats like covering Johnny
Cash’s “Ring of Fire” and opening for Neil Young on tour. The band has played
host to an impressive rotating cast of musicians, with lead singer and
guitarist Mike Ness remaining the constant figurehead. Formed in 1979, the band
released its first album, Mommy’s Little Monster, in 1983. In 1988, Prison
Bound saw the band embracing new southern influences. The group finally
received widespread attention with their self-titled third album, released on
Epic in 1990. The album includes some of their best-known songs, including “Ball
and Chain” and “Story of my Life,” and has been certified gold stateside. Social
Distortion reportedly returned to the studio to record a new album in February
of this year, their seventh.
In an interview with AOL’s Spinner, Ness said, “We're recording it really old-school. We went back to tape, old compressors and old microphones, just really trying to fight modern technology as much as possible.” Listening to Ness proselytize, you can hear countless bands he’s influenced, from grunge kings to punk stars and likely countless rock niches in between. To experience not just living, but rocking musical history is a rare opportunity; there is simply no more kick-ass way to pay your riotous respects than to fist-pump along to Social Distortion.

memoriap , about 1 year agoOne other thing,You gottta go see Social Ditortion in a small venue (2,000 people or less) and you will see one of the best shows ever,Mike Ness first chord sends all 2000 people into a frenzy and you will see first hand how real concerts are suppose to be!!!Screw these big arenas with 15,000 people,Social Distortion was meant to be seen and heard in places like the Ventura Thaeter or Santa Barbars Bowl, for those of you who get ther chance to see these guys live, definitly do it!!Hopefully it will be in a smaller venue where you can feel the energy ,its fuckin cool!!!!!!!!!!
