After 12 years of working on other projects, the Grammy-winning godfathers of grunge are reuniting to rock. Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron and Ben Shepherd are lifting the proverbial lid off Soundgarden and rejoining the "Soundtable." The group formed more than a quarter of a century ago in Seattle, which they helped turn into the capital of grunge. Their single "Hunted Down" was one of the first releases on Sub Pop, the label that went on to sign Mudhoney and Nirvana.
The band released five albums over nine years, including their 1994 breakthrough Superunknown, which featured "Spoonman" and "Black Hole Sun." After releasing Down on the Upside in 1996, the group shared a bill with Metallica on the Lollapalooza tour before disbanding. Though Cornell enjoyed significant success in his other musical endeavor, Audioslave, and released three solo albums, fans of the rock star are undoubtedly thrilled to see him return to his origins. Of course, Thayil, Cameron and Shepherd kept busy this past decade-plus, too; Thayil and Shepherd collaborated with countless other musicians, and Cameron stepped in to drum for Pearl Jam.
Together again, Soundgarden can celebrate a legacy Hit Parader writer Henry Wilson described as "a brilliant display of technical proficiency tempered by heart-felt emotion." A headlining spot at Lollapalooza is completely fitting, as it will allow the group to pick up where they left off—only now, the band brings years of outside influences that will likely give their classic tunes a fresh perspective.

Wow, Soundgarden back together? I must see them, they were one of my all time favorite bands as a kid.
Robert Proctor , about 1 year agoI'm with Rui Bento on the scheduling. I missed Soundgarden 15 years ago in Dublin and they're one of my favourite bands. But I've been wanting to see Arcade Fire for ages as well - their shows sell out too quickly (2 mins last time). Arcade Fire vs. Lady Gaga and The Strokes vs. Soundgarden would have been more sensible. Anyway, Soundgarden closing the festival is going to be amazing. -- 667

Bill Kurkowski , about 1 year agoAwsome I love chris cornell
calebpapay80 , about 1 year agoSoundgarden will be great, but why can't Lolla have them playing opposite AFI or some shit like that? I actually kinda wanted to see Arcade Fire! Oh, well, Soundgarden alone is worth the price of admission. And in response to the last comment, it'll be alright if they don't play Black Hole Sun, it'll be a great show if they stick to Badmotorfinger and a few tracks from the earlier albums.
zjh_2002 , about 1 year agoRead in Rolling Stone that on their last concert, Soundgarden is focusing on performing early stuff and not playing Black Hole Sun.This is discouraging news
narndt574 , about 1 year agoSoundgarden is one of my all-time favorites! Perfect event for a reunion! How will I make it through these next three months!

seltabs2000 , about 1 year agoSoundgarden has been my favorite band since Ultra mega ok... I really need to know what day they're playing so I can buy my tickets
armyfletch69 , about 1 year agoSoundgarden....that's all I needed to know. Why the fuck lady gaga is sharing a stage with these legends is beyond me. I suppose every year they need a cash-grab artist, and thus, we have lady gaga. Ir's too bad her fans wont know how to appreciate the timeless performance that will lay ahead of them...for shame! Chris Cornell is the greatest singer of this generation. An all-time legend. I can not wait for this.
martymoves , about 1 year agonever heard about this band:P LOL!! LADY GAGA IS THE BEST :D http://www.kimskoglund.com
