After moving to Brooklyn, vocalist-guitarist Peter Silberman
labored on his own, writing two albums before hooking up with Michael Lerner
and Darby Cicci and becoming the Antlers. They released two EPs, and
Silberman’s solo efforts turned into the album, Hospice, a wrenchingly beautiful song cycle telling the story of a
home care assistant falling in love with the dying cancer patient in his charge.
Featuring Silberman’s emotional falsetto and equally emotional lyrics, it gripped listeners. After selling out their hand-pressed copies and having to produce more, they were signed to Frenchkiss Records, which remastered and re-released the disc last summer. It showed up on several year-end best-of lists. The band is now at work on a follow-up.
