Wavves Signing

Wavves is the brainchild of Nathan Williams, an ocean-fearing San Diego native who apparently has a thing for the letter v; the band’s 2009 Fat Possum Records release, the follow-up to their self-titled debut, contained not two, but three, in its name: Wavvves. The distortion-happy, lo-fi slacker and his poppy melodies attracted fans quickly, and Williams’ wild behavior and indie-rock feuds with bands like the Black Lips have only increased the buzz. In November, drummer Billy Hayes and bassist Stephen Pope, formerly of the late Jay Reatard’s band, came on board to buoy Wavves’ sound.
